First full day in Miami

Miami skyline from our room

This trip was not as overly long as many we take, but the body just doesn't cope as well anymore. I slept about 9 1/2 hrs last night, Bill slept almost 12, but he did have a little help with some herbal sleep aide he took. We are both feeling better today.

Today we were out and about, but it was so.o.o.o hot - about 30 deg with a Humidex of 37 and humidity in the high 60's, that the going was tough. My gibbled knee does not help.

We had our first taste of Cuban food today, from what appeared to be an authentic Cuban restaurant. Our ordering was done by pointing and pantomime, as neither of us nor the girl behind the counter could understand each other's language. It was a tiny little restaurant that had a hot buffet of several differently prepared meat dishes and sides. It was busy with people coming and going, lots of take-outs, so that was a sign to me that it was probably good. All the food looked very fresh, not dried out. We got fed and the food was delicious and inexpensive. Two drinks, two healthy/large size meals came to $22, can't get 2 MacDonald or A & W meals for that price. We had some type of braised pork chunks served with black rice and black beans, potatoes for Bill and coleslaw for me.

We did a little hotel room shopping, but limited ourselves to drinks and fresh fruit, which is NOT INEXPENSIVE here in Florida. Generally, looking at all food item prices, they are very similar to home, which really surprised me. Even the citruses are priced comparably.

Three hours in the heat was enough. Refreshing showers were needed on return to the hotel, plus large quantities of liquids.
